The 33rd consecutive drawing of the Powerball lottery on Wednesday had no jackpot winner, resulting in the jackpot soaring to $1.4 billion.

The winner can choose a lump-sum payment of $643.7 million in cash for the next drawing on Oct. 7.

The upcoming Powerball jackpot is now the 3rd largest and the 5th largest in U.S. history.

In 2023, lottery jackpots have exceeded a billion dollars four times, twice in Mega Millions and twice in Powerball.

This marks the first time in Powerball history that back-to-back jackpot cycles have generated billion-dollar grand prizes.

A recent survey suggests that online ticket purchases and an extra day for drawings have contributed to record-breaking jackpots.

The winning numbers for the recent drawing were revealed as 9, 35, 54, 63, and 64, with the Powerball number being 1 and the Power Play number being 2.

Ten players won $1 million each by matching the first five numbers on Wednesday.

Additionally, three second-prize tickets were sold, each winning $2 million with the Power Play option.

A total of 94 tickets won money by matching four white numbers and the Powerball, with 13 players doubling their prize money through the Power Play option. The estimated jackpot for Powerball has increased to $1.4 billion on an annuity basis.
